We spent Wednesday playing in the city with Nana and Papa and Robyn. Steve's only request for this trip was to find Marination Mobile. We've been trying to catch them for a year and we finally did it! You'll have to check out my 365 post tomorrow for that picture! Marination Mobile is a food cart started by Robyn's friends, Kamala and Roz. They make and serve Hawaiian and Korean food and then travel around Seattle serving their loyal customers curbside. On this day they happened to be in the Fremont area. I found that to be exciting in itself, as I was close to my gluten-free bakery! No fear, though, Kamala made me a special pulled pork taco - no nunya (sp????) sauce. YUM! Check them out next time you're in Seattle.
I couldn't resist a stop at Pike Place Market - I'm not sure I've ever been to Seattle when we didn't stop here!
We had dinner with Cheryl and Travis Sines at the Tamarind Tree - another favorite!
Thursday morning we met Cheryl and Travis again at Fisherman's Wharf where a very gracious friend took us on a tour of her dad's fishing boat. Their fishing season won't start until June when they will head up to Alaska for a couple of months so the boat was unoccupied at this time. She explained all about the holding tanks, the purse nets, the cooking, the sleeping, the steering....everything! Steve and the kids climbed up to the crows nest to check out the view.
That afternoon, Steve, the kids, my mom and I took the monorail from my parent's hotel downtown for some retail adventures. I think the monorail was the best adventure of all - Steve missed the first train and we lost my mom on the return train! Fortunately, we had some idea of where we were and where we were going so no one was lost for long!
The main purpose for making the trip to Seattle was to attend Robyn's Team in Training wine tasting/auction fundraising event. Robyn and her team put on a fun evening at The Wine Outlet on Elliot Way. My dad was the guest of honor, or, as he put it, the poster boy for the evening. Part of his duty for the night was to give a speech about his experiences with lymphoma and lymphoma treatments. He did his job so well that the team made over $6,000 and I'm pretty sure the outlet's owner made a little money as well!
Friday was designated travel day so we trekked on home through a spring snow storm - just to make a day trip to Spokane on Saturday for Dylan's first soccer game of the season. For a team that started last fall, playing against top players from Spokane, they did darn well. The score was 4-3....I think the boys may have only made 3 points total last season! Check out a picture of my parents watching the game on my 365 post.
Easter was pretty quiet. With all our previous travels, we wanted a little time at home before starting back to work today. The Easter Bunny spoiled the kids but they have sure had fun with their new toys - and candy! And I've sure liked all the Peeps he left them!
